Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung, Germany’s national social accident insurance provider, has approved the rental of its 20th ReWalk exoskeleton system for beneficiaries who qualify, according to a press release from ReWalk Robotics Ltd.
In addition, Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung (DGUV) recently signed a confirmation letter that DGUV member payers, including the health insurance association Berufsgenossenschaft and state insurers, will approve the supply of exoskeleton systems for patients who qualify on a case-by-case basis.
“We are greatly encouraged to see such immediate interest and action from DGUV in providing medical devices to eligible individuals in the spinal cord-injured community,” Larry Jasinski, BSc, CEO of ReWalk, said in the release. “German insurers are blazing the trail for their global cohorts, developing national programs with clear policies that enable beneficiaries to have access to critical health care innovation.”
DGUV is made up of 35 insurers that provide coverage to more than 70 million people in Germany. According to ReWalk, 12 of the 35 insurers have pursued gaining an exoskeleton system for beneficiaries, including rentals, signed purchase orders and outright purchases. As per the agreement, all eligible beneficiaries will receive evaluations at BG clinics as part of the procurement process.
According to the release, the DGUV agreement is similar to another signed by ReWalk with German insurer Barmer.
