ATLANTA — There are key points for anyone who wants to start their own O&P business, according to a video perspective from Michael P. Smith, CPO, who was a panelist on the business forum at the International African American Prosthetic and Orthotic Annual Meeting.
Smith, vice president of IAAPOC and a small-business owner for more than 27 years, said that the forum focused on the following key points:
- Potential business owners should know their business from the bottom up, including technical aspects;
- They should keep abreast of changes in the profession, especially regarding insurance companies; and
- They should focus on knowing their patients and providing good service. “It’s for the patients, overall,” Smith told O&P News.
