LAS VEGAS — Attendees of the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association World Congress raised money for both the association’s Capitol Connection and the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation’s First Clinics, at the Thranhardt Golf Classic, held at the Las Vegas National Golf Club.
The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) Capitol Connection was established by the association to supplement its government relations program. The Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF) and its First Clinics programs offer adaptive recreational sporting events for individuals with physical challenges.
“AOPA’s Capitol Connection and OPAF co-sponsor this wonderful event to benefit the inspiring efforts of OPAF and the legislative, research and education efforts of the Capitol Connection, to further the O&P policy agenda,” Robin Burton, executive director of OPAF, told O&P News.
This year, AOPA celebrates its 100th anniversary, as nine other organizations partner with AOPA to host the second annual World Congress, scheduled for Sept. 6-9, at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The first congress attracted more than 2,500 participants from 43 countries, according to AOPA’s website.
The event will include specialized education tracks for orthotists, prosthetists, pedorthists, technicians and business managers; research and development; clinical education; practical learning and live demonstrations; updates on health care law in the United States; and the largest display of exhibits in the Western Hemisphere for the orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic profession, according to AOPA.
