The Helping Hand Project at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has received a grant from the VWR Foundation to help purchase equipment and supplies to print and assemble prosthetic devices, according to a press release.
“With the support from the VWR Foundation, the Helping Hand Project at [University of North Carolina] UNC Charlotte will be able to provide low-cost prosthetic devices to thousands of children in need while also promoting STEM education across the United States,” Richard Chi, PhD, an assistant professor at UNC, said in the release. “These grant dollars will supply our student-run organization with dedicated 3-D printers and materials to print prosthetic devices, ultimately reducing our delivery time to just days. We thank the VWR Foundation for its commitment to our program.”
The Helping Hand Project seeks to provide prosthetic devices to those in need at no cost to patients or their families. The Helping Hand Project was one of 20 groups who received grants from the VWR Foundation, a charitable organization “dedicated to giving back to the science community,” according to the release. The grants totaled $140,000.
