U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and quadruple amputee, will deliver the keynote address at the “For the Love of Our Troops” event on Sept. 22 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The event is organized by The Home Front Cares (THFC), a nonprofit that provides emergency financial grants to service members, veterans and their families in Colorado. Since 2003, the group has raised more than $8 million for life expenses, including rent and utilities for clients. Last year, the “For the Love of Our Troops” event raised more than $100,000 for the group.
“THFC is honored to have Travis as this year’s guest,” Eric Evans, executive director of THFC, said in a press release. “He has served his country admirably and continues his service today by telling his inspirational story which is one of overcoming great challenges. We look forward to having our friends, partners and supporters joining us for this special evening.”
According to the release, Mills was critically injured by an improvised explosive device while on patrol during his third tour of duty in Afghanistan. He is one of five veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive quadruple-amputee injuries.
