The student robotics team at South Grand Prairie High School finished 14th out of 600 competitors in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Robotics World Championships, according to a press release. The team received plastic materials and material training on properties from Curbell Plastics.
“We have been working with the team for about a year assisting with materials and plastic information,” Erik Luke, business manager for Curbell, said in the release. “When they reached out to us, we knew it was something that we wanted to get involved with. It seemed like a great project and we see it as a wonderful way to connect with the next generation of engineers, scientists and researchers, introducing them to the world of performance plastics.”
According to the release, the team competed against other high schools as part of the robotics program. The teams were responsible for generating ideas for the robots and their functionality, and transferred those ideas to the design and build of the machine.
“Our team is funded by sponsorships and fundraising, so we are appreciative of the support from Curbell Plastics with donations, discounts and the material expertise they provide to the students,” David Ricks, program engineer and public relations coordinator at South Grand Prairie High School, said in the release.
