The Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation’s hosted its First Swim clinic at Queen’s University in Charlotte, N.C., according to a press release.
Mabio Costa, a two-time world champion triathlete and below-knee amputee, provided adaptive training and instruction, and the Queens University Royals swim team assisted Costa in the instruction, according to the release.
More than 20 individuals with spinal cord injuries, visual impairment and amputations, aged 4 years and older, participated in the clinic. Each participant was matched with a personal swim coach and received instruction on how to improve their skills in the water.
The event was sponsored by Hanger Clinic, Paceline Advanced Medical Solutions and Accessible Mobility Center. All participants received Willow Wood beach towels, custom backpacks and giveaways from vendors, the release noted.
