Create O&P, a company that has developed an O&P-specific 3-D printer, has partnered with Vorum to offer an in-house 3-D printing solution for North American providers of custom prostheses, according to a company press release.
Vorum provides computer-aided design and manufacturing technology for building orthotic and prosthetic devices. According to the release, Create O&P will offer Vorum’s Canfit 3-D O&P design software as part of its latest printing system package.
“3-D printed devices are better because they provide faster design than traditional plaster-based methods, are completely quantifiable, are completely adjustable and are completely reproducible,” Jeff Erenstone, chief executive officer of Create O&P, said in the release. “3-D printing is a tool, but it takes a skilled practitioner and technician to use it. We should call it by its real name – additive manufacturing. The addition of Vorum’s Canfit software adds a new element to our package that allows prosthetists to design their own custom devices. This software is used by thousands of clinicians worldwide because of its ease of use and customer support. We are proud to offer Canfit to our 3-D printing system customers.”
Create O&P’s new system will allow clinicians to scan, modify and build devices digitally in their clinic, according to the release. The package includes the Create 3400 3-D printer, scanner, custom designs, technical support and a 1-year subscription to Vorum’s Canfit software, which includes a 6-hour training session focused on transtibial sockets.
