CHICAGO — At the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium, Wendy Beattie, CPO, FAAOP, said the most important issue facing O&P practitioners is how to present themselves as experts in their profession.
Beattie, who is clinical and program director at Eastern Michigan University, said practitioners should make clear what they do and the services they provide.
“I think we need to differentiate ourselves and differentiate our services — what we do and what we provide for the patient,” she said. “It is not a product, but a service. It is knowing what to do for what patient and how to decide that, and as an educator, that is one of the things we strive to teach our students — how to present yourself and how to show people that you are the expert.”
