The O&P News and Healio.com/OandP team will report live from the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium, scheduled for March 1 through March 4 in Chicago.
The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) will host organized sessions, certificate, product display showcases and free paper presentations. In addition, it will host professional development sessions on health care trends, business management and practice development issues.
The meeting will feature presentations from the 2017 Thranhardt Lectures Award recipients Jennifer Lynn Lucarevic, PT, DPT, and Jonathan S. Atkins, PhD. The Thranhardt Lectures highlight clinical findings, research, statistical analysis and results. The meeting will also honor the recipients of the AAOP Titus-Ferguson Lifetime Achievement and the Distinguished Practitioner awards.
Thursday’s events will include a residency networking event for O&P students and an O&P student social. Thursday evening will include the Scientific Society Forums, in which society members will present education programs, preview future projects and discuss cases on upper limb prosthetics.
Friday’s events include programs on the business of O&P, the use of data to improve patient care and lower limb prosthetics. A special event Friday evening will feature a discussion of the current and future political climate and what it could mean for health care and the O&P profession.
Saturday’s events include sessions on outcomes of partial foot amputation, as well as strategies for O&P advocacy on state and federal issues.
