Handspring Prosthetic Rehabilitation, a company that provides upper limb prosthetic care, has acquired Ability Prosthetic Systems, a prosthetic care provider based in Salt Lake City.
According to a press release, the addition of Ability Prosthetic Systems could add administrative, clinical and fabrication expertise to Handspring, as well as an opportunity for the company to expand throughout the western United States.
“Being able to grow patient care in the western [part of the United States] is a long-term goal for our organization, but without the right people, we simply would not make that move,” Mark Ford, Handspring president,” said in the release.
“The ongoing changes in health care are making it difficult for smaller O&P companies to survive on their own while continuing to serve patients in creative, patient-centered ways,” J. Thomas Andrew, CP, FAAOP, of Ability Prosthetic Systems, said in the release. “As we got to know the people [at] Handspring, we learned that they have similar patient care goals to [ours]. By coming together with them, we get to focus on patient care while the business details are managed by the Handspring team.”
