Ottobock will host a session with U.S. veterans at the annual South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, according to a press release.
The session, “How Wounded Warriors are Transforming Biotech,” is scheduled for March 10, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Austin Convention Center and will feature three veteran speakers. Ottobock will also livestream the hour-long event. Those interested in viewing the livestream can register at http://bit.ly/SXSW2017Vets.
According to Ottobock, the session will feature veterans whose “will to move beyond their physical limitations is transforming prosthetic technology.” They include:
- Captain Christy Wise, an active-duty service member who piloted her first C-130 flight after losing her right leg above the knee;
- Heath Calhoun, a spokesperson for the Wounded Warrior Project who counsels newly injured veterans and amputees across the United States; and
- Melissa Stockwell, an above-knee amputee and the first female soldier in the Iraq War to lose a limb in active combat. She recently won a bronze medal in the paratriathlon at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
