LAS VEGAS — With higher levels of complex debilities, stance-controlled lower extremity orthoses continue to be the most advanced technology available for patients prone to falls, Gary G. Bedard, CO, FAAOP, a clinical application liaison for Becker Orthopedic, said at the Hanger Education Fair and National Meeting.
He said that as patients continue to present with multiple complications, orthoses that can lock during the standing phase and offer leg movement in the swing phase will remain key to gait salvage interventions.
“Stance-controlled orthoses have been with us for almost 2 decades, but it does represent the most advanced technology we can use in lower extremity orthotics when a patient presents with a stability issue,” Bedard said. “In the complexity of [certain] patients, it is about taking in these factors to provide gait salvage at a higher level of mobility.”
