Recently Össur hosted its first Women’s Leadership Conference. The conference brought in more than 30 female O&P professionals from 11 states.
The professional education event, hosted at the Össur Academy facility in Orlando, Fla., was open to all O&P professionals and students at no cost. It included a career development panel led by O&P business leaders, as well as sessions covering important industry issues, such as gender equality in the field, diversity and corporate responsibility.
Elizabeth McCormick, one of the first women to serve as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot in the U.S. Army, served as the keynote speaker. According to a company press release, McCormick has received multiple commendation and achievement medals, as well as the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Aviator Badge and the Congressional Veteran Commendation for her continued commitment to duty and community.
“Össur’s Women’s Leadership Initiative helps encourage female O&P practitioners to develop their leadership skills through unique educational and interactive opportunities,” Kim Edwards, director of Össur’s Women’s Leadership Initiative, said in the release. “The number of women entering the O&P field has risen exponentially over the past few years, and we believe that our support will ultimately be beneficial both to patients individually and to the profession as a whole.”
