The National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education recently announced Tyler Klenow, CO, as the 2016 recipient of the Larry Lange Travel Fellowship Award.
According to a press release from the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE), the award was established in 2007 in the honor and memory of Larry Lange, CPO, FAAOP. Lange worked in the O&P profession for more than 27 years and, according to the release, “believed in furthering one’s education as evidenced by his pursuit and attainment of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists fellow designation.”
The award provides individuals who are starting their O&P careers with opportunities to enrich their educational and professional development in a particular aspect of O&P care. The $2,000 award funds travel and meeting registration fees for professional O&P conferences and activities.
Klenow is an orthotist and a prosthetic resident at the James A. Haley Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Tampa, Fla. For the past year, he also has been a research consultant with the Prosthetics and Amputee Rehabilitation and Research Foundation, where he has been involved in the submission of 12 manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, including four systematic literature reviews currently in review or revision. He also assisted in the assembly and submission of multiple grant applications that resulted in the award of a $45,000 systematic review from the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association, two $15,000 pilot grants from the Center for O&P Learning and Evidence-Based Practice and a $1.35 million randomized clinical trial from the U.S. Department of Defense. Once he finishes his prosthetic residency, Klenow will serve as clinical services manager with Brevard Prosthetics and Orthotics in Ft. Meyers, Fla.
The application deadline for the 2017 award is June 1, 2017.
