AOPA names Mobility Saves testimonial contest winners

The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association announced the winners of its Mobility Saves Testimonial Contest.

Jeff Lewis, of Mesa, Ariz., won the grand prize for his video submission which described his active life as a quadruple amputee who participates in bowling, dancing and golfing. The grand prize was worth $500.

“Certainly I have some restrictions, but I am not going to let the things I cannot do get in the way of the things I can,” he said in an American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) press release.

Ruth Frieboes of North Powder, Ore. won the second place prize of $250 for her footage of her adventures after she became a transfemoral amputee. Her adventures included zip lining, hiking and enjoying the beach.

“I wanted to get back into my life as I approached retirement. My dreams and goals would never have happened without a good [prosthesis].” Frieboes said.

All O&P device users were able to participate in this nationwide contest. AOPA will use the testimonials in their Mobility Saves campaign, which demonstrates that O&P care saves lives by helping preserve or regain mobility for patients and also saves money for third-party payers.
