SynTouch LLC, a developer and manufacturer of sensor technology, recently announced it was awarded a federal research grant to develop a system of intuitive grasping for prosthetic hands using a foam-based sensor.
The award is funded by the Department of Defense’s U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs.
“Innovative applications of tactile sensing in prosthetic hands is something that has been close to SynTouch since the company’s founding,” Jeremy Fishel, director of research for SynTouch, said in a press release. “Over the years we have explored various approaches and have finally honed in on an application that can make a real impact for amputees.”
