The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association has announced the winners of its annual student poster awards.
Tyler Klenow is the recipient of the fifth annual Otto and Lucille Becker Award for his orthotic abstract, “A Functional Comparison of a Carbon Fiber AFO and Two Modular KAFO Conditions Using Outcome Measures in a Veteran Subject With Traumatic Brain Injury.”
Klenow is a resident at James A. Haley Veteran’s Hospital, and graduated with a master’s degree in orthotics and prosthetics from Eastern Michigan University.
Lisa Abernathy is the recipient of the fifth annual Edwin and Kathryn Arbogast Award for her prosthetic abstract, “Going Back in Time: A Content Analysis on the Media Portrayal of Characters With Antiquated Prostheses.” Abernathy is a student at Alabama State University.
“Tyler and Lisa represent the most promising of our future O&P professionals, and I am proud to say that our patients are in good hands,” Charles H. Dankmeyer, Jr., CPO, president of the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA), stated in a press release.
Klenow and Abernathy will be presented with the awards during the General Session and AOPA Annual Business Meeting as part of the National Assembly at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
