The National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics & Prosthetics has announced an effort to draw national attention to the recently published draft policy for Local Coverage Determination for Lower Limb Prosthetics.
The draft policy was released by the four Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractors (DME MACs) and, once published, will govern Medicare coverage of lower limb prostheses.
The National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics & Prosthetics (NAAOP) has created a petition calling for the White House to rescind the draft policy, according to an update from the organization. The petition must reach 100,000 signatures within 30 days to receive a response from White House staff.
The petition reads as follows: “We petition the Obama Administration to rescind the Medicare proposal restricting access to prosthetic limbs and returning amputees to 1970’s standards of care.”
In addition, the NAAOP has partnered with the Össur Reimbursement Team to offer a webinar on the draft policy. The webinar will be hosted by David McGill, president of the NAAOP and vice president of legal affairs and reimbursement for Össur, and Peter W. Thomas, general counsel for the NAAOP, at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 5, according to the update.
