Bioness recognized for functional electrical stimulation devices

Bioness recently announced it has received the 2015 Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award in Functional Electrical Stimulation for Walking.

The company, which provides rehabilitation solutions for individuals affected by pain, central nervous system disorders and orthopedic injuries, received the award in recognition of its lower extremity functional electrical stimulation (FES) devices for patients experiencing gait disturbances due to central nervous system pathologies, including stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and cerebral palsy, according to a press release.

“Recognition of this market segment by Frost & Sullivan is an important step to increasing technology awareness and accessibility to the many thousands of people who can benefit from Bioness technologies,” Todd Cushman, Bioness president and CEO, said in the release. “It is gratifying to know the award is based not only on our superior technology and its capacity to deliver significant functional benefits, but on direct feedback from our customers.”

The company was recognized in the Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Report for its creation of improved electrodes that increase repeatability and reduce set-up time, its adaptable gait detection technology delivered via proprietary algorithms and its expanding availability outside the rehabilitation setting to individuals in the community limited by lower extremity paralysis.
