A draft policy that, once finalized, will govern Medicare coverage of lower limb prostheses has been released.
The four Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) released the 40-page Proposed/Draft Local Coverage Determination (LCD) for Lower Limb Prostheses online. The draft policy includes “significant revisions” from the existing policy on lower limb prostheses, according to a press release from the American Orthotics & Prosthetics Association (AOPA).
The DME MACs will accept public comments on the draft LCD through Aug. 1, 2015. AOPA has created a comment portal to collect comments from its members, which AOPA staff will review and consider in its analysis of and final comments on the issue.
