The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists has announced Lydia Middleton, MBA, CAE, as its new executive director, effective August 2015.

Middleton brings more than 20 years of management experience in the nonprofit healthcare industry to the position, according to an American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) press release. She previously served as president and chief executive officer of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. She also served as a consultant to academic and association communities. Middleton was named by Modern Healthcare Magazine as one of the 100 most powerful people in health care in 2004.
She is past president of the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions and past chair of the Small Staff Association Committee of the American Society of Association Executives.
“The Academy board and I are confident Lydia is the right person to lead the organization,” AAOP President Jason Highsmith, PT, DPT, PhD, CP, FAAOP, stated in the release. “We believe her experience in the healthcare industry and the nonprofit sector is a perfect match, and we are delighted that she has accepted the appointment.”
