Challenged Athletes Foundation raised more than $2.3 million at its annual “A Celebration of Heroes, Heart and Hope” gala in New York City in support of people with physical challenges.
The gala funds the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF)’s mentoring programs, free sport clinics and the Access for Athletes grant program, which provides challenged athletes with adaptive sport equipment, travel and training expenses.
“We gather to celebrate the unbreakable athletic spirit exhibited by inspirational challenged athletes all over the world, but we also know there are people who still need support to realize their athletic goals,” Scott Stackman, gala founder, committee chairman and CAF board member, said in a press release. “The $2.3 million raised at this year’s gala will help fund the Challenged Athletes Foundation to increase the number of athletes and their families who can benefit from our programs and support.”
There were more than 50 challenged athletes at this year’s event, according to the release.
In April, more than 1,709 grants for a total of $3.5 million were distributed all over the world through CAF’s Access for Athletes Grant program.
