The Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation recently announced the launch of its First Safeguard clinic, according to a press release.
First Safeguard, the 12th First Clinic offered by the Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF), offers instruction on personal safety for people facing physical or mobility challenges. The initial clinic, held in Dayton, Ohio, was led by Doug Morgan, an Ohio peace officer and transtibial amputee, and assisted by John Powell, a martial arts expert.
Some tips from the clinic, which emphasized personal defense in close quarters, included following an attacker’s shoulder movement rather than the motion of their head and aiming for an attacker’s foot in order to impair them, according to the release.
