The Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation’s First Swim Clinic was held March 28 at Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C. The event was hosted by Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics and Paceline.
First Swim was led by three-time Paralympic swim champion, Jason Wening, CPO, and the Queens University swim team, who worked one-on-one with the 12 participants both on the pool deck and in the water. The event welcomed participants with both upper- and lower-limb differences, spinal cord injuries and visual impairment, according to a press release.
Emma Durante, a Queens University senior and an intern for the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF), coordinated the event. Durante has been on the university swim team for 4 years and plans to obtain a graduate degree in occupational therapy, according to the release.
