The Challenged Athletes Foundation announced it will sponsor the 2015 National Junior Disability Championship.
This years’ event, running from July 18-24 in New Jersey, will be hosted by the Children’s Specialized Hospital and offer competitive opportunities to athletes with physical or visual impairments.
Activities are open to athletes ages 7 years to 22 years and include track, field, pentathlon, swimming, power lifting and archery. Events will be judged by USA Track & Field, Swimming and International Paralympic Committee officials.
A two-day Wheelchair Track Clinic and Paralympic Track & Field Coaching Clinic also will be offered to introduce athletes to new drills and concepts.
“Sponsoring [this event] is great platform to support our young athletes and provide them with every tool needed to grow into the athlete they want to become,” Carolyn Odom, Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF)’s director of programs, stated in the release. “We are excited to enhance our partnership with the National Junior Disability Championship and help individuals with physical challenges see what is possible through sports.”
CAF is expecting more than 200 participants, family members and friends, and has begun providing competition expenses and grants for equipment and training.
Clinics are free for all invited athletes, coaches and parents attending the event, but space is limited, according to the release. Athletes must complete an online entry application to enter.
