The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics Inc. has released the 2015 Practice Analysis of Certified Practitioners in the Disciplines of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
The practice analysis is a joint creation of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics Inc. (ABC)’s Practice Analysis Task Force; Cathy Carter, ABC’s executive director; and Professional Exam Services. The practice analysis study included a validation study to determine current trends in patient care, technology and practice management, according to a press release. ABC’s last practice analysis study took place in 2006 and the 2014 survey had a 28% return rate.
“We wanted to get an idea of what current orthotic and prosthetic practice looks like in order to meet the ever-changing needs of our patients and the profession,” Steven R. Whiteside, CO, FAAOP, ABC’s chair of the Practice Analysis Task Force stated in the release. “We were pleased with the participation and the valuable input we received from the professionals surveyed.”
The results will be used to identify content for in-service and continuing education courses and to provide guidance for education and residency programs.
Additionally, “as a results of the survey, we are able to provide the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) with pertinent information on what orthotic and prosthetic students and residents need to learn and what information to disseminate,” Carter stated.
