VA offers $8 million grants for adaptive sports for disabled veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs has issued Notice of Funding Availability offering up to $8 million in grants for the fiscal year 2015 to fiscal year 2016, providing opportunities for veterans and members of the armed forces with disabilities to perform in adaptive sports.

“We encourage nonprofit organizations, veterans’ groups, universities, municipalities and other eligible groups to apply for this funding,” Robert A. McDonald, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) secretary stated in a press release. “Adaptive sports can play an important role in veterans’ rehabilitation process and help ease the transition from military to the civilian sector.”

Non-federal entities who manage, plan, develop and implement large-scale adaptive sports programs for disabled veteran’s and armed forces members are eligible for grants. Grants can be used for sports equipment, training, program development and evaluation, coaching and other related activities.
