The Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation has announced it will host CNN Hero Dale Beatty and extreme athlete, Reggie Showers, at McKeever’s First Ride on April 18, according to a press release.
Beatty and Showers, both double amputees, will share their experiences with attendees at the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, Atlanta.
Beatty, a military veteran, was honored by CNN in 2013 as a “community crusader” for co-founding Purple Heart Homes, a nonprofit organization that modifies and provides homes for disabled veterans.
Showers is a former professional motorcycle racer and a current adaptive snowboarder and certified snowboarding instructor.
McKeever’s First Ride is an equine-assisted activities clinic that allows people with limb loss or other physical challenges to experience horseback riding, roping, carriage driving, grooming, groundwork and expressive arts, according to the release. The event and parking are free.
