The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics has awarded the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics and the National Commission on Orthotics and Prosthetics Education with Category I recognition, according to a press release.
The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO)’s classification system evaluates organizations on the processes used in educating, training and certifying orthotic and prosthetic students.
Category I recognition validates the pathway offered by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) and the National Commission on Orthotics and Prosthetics Education (NCOPE) for individuals interested in obtaining their CPO designation. With this honor, the ABC/NCOPE CPO pathway is recognized throughout the world as having met the highest international educational standards. ABC is the only credentialing body in the United States to receive Category I recognition from ISPO, according to the release.
The standards ISPO enforces are recognized by the World Health Organization; therefore, by obtaining Category I recognition, ABC/NCOPE has demonstrated the equivalency of the approach used to properly educate, train and assess the competency of orthotics and prosthetics practitioners in the United States compared with international standards.
