Approximately 10,000 veterans and current service members are expected to benefit from $8 million awarded recently through the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Grants for Adaptive Sports program.
According to the VA website, the Grants for Adaptive Sports (ASG) program “provides grant funding to organizations to increase and expand the quantity and quality of adaptive sport activities disabled veterans and members of the armed forces have to participate in physical activity within their home communities, as well as more advanced Paralympic and adaptive sport programs at the regional and national levels.”
A total of 69 grants were awarded; among these, 53 recipients had received prior grants through the program. Grant awards were spread across 28 states, the District of Columbia and American Samoa, according to the site.
The ASG program awarded $4,204,313.98 to national organizations; $2,283,433.66 to regional partners; and $1,512,252.36 to community groups.
