Ottobock was the official provider of technical service for the first Invictus Games, which was held Sept. 10-14 in London. In addition to conducting various repairs to equipment such as wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs damaged in competition, Ottobock also supported the British Armed Forces team.
“Ottobock has been supporting people with disabilities [who] participate in sports and recreation for more than three decades. We [were] excited to use this experience to be part of the first Invictus Games,” Phil Yates, managing director at Ottobock, stated in a company press release.
More than 400 competitors from 14 nations took part in the games, with teams coming from the armed forces of nations that have served alongside each other. According to the release, the purpose of the games was to use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and support a wider understanding and respect of those who serve their country. Prince Harry of Wales was driven to bring this sporting event for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women to an international audience following his visit to the Warrior Games in Colorado in 2013.
