On March 6-7, Össur launched Össur Academy Orlando, the first facility in the United States dedicated to clinical O&P education, product testing and research.
More than two dozen O&P professionals joined amputee models and executives from Össur and Evolution Industries to celebrate the grand opening, which featured speakers addressing the latest developments in O&P clinical education, product innovation and patient outcomes. Attendees participated in specialized training courses on functional assessments, reimbursement policies, best practices in treating osteoarthritis, trends affecting the O&P profession and a bracing technologies workshop.
Össur Academy Orlando is intended to provide O&P practitioners the opportunity to work directly with clinical and biomechanical engineering experts on next-generation innovations. The 6,000-square-foot facility features advanced motion tracking software and equipment for evaluating orthotics and prosthetics performance. Specialty equipment includes a pressure measuring treadmill; a 30-ft solo step ceiling mounted walking system; a 4-foot tall ramp and modular stairs; 100-foot running track; water rowing machine and a 3-D virtual sports simulator.
“For decades, Össur has been dedicated to helping millions of people enjoy ‘life without limitations.’ We look forward to continuing this work as we bring together some of the best minds in the field at Össur Academy Orlando, where our customers will be able to work directly with patient-users to evaluate orthotics and prosthetics performance in a unique dynamic clinical setting,” Jon Sigurdsson, Össur president and chief executive officer, stated in a press release.
