The Orthotic & Prosthetic Activities Foundation and Bridge II Sports have received the 2013 Special Tennis Event of the Year award from the United States Tennis Association-North Carolina. The award was presented to the groups for wheelchair and amputee tennis clinics held across North and South Carolina in June.
In addition, Robin Burton, OPAF executive director, has been named as the USTA North Carolina Adaptive Tennis Committee chairperson for 2014.
Hosted and sponsored by OPAF and Bridge II Sports, North Carolina’s adaptive sports organization, six tennis clinics were held over 5 days with more than 75 participants and 125 volunteers. According to a press release, Paralympic player and coach Karin Korb led instruction for wheelchair participants and OPAF’s First Volley instructor Amy Franklin assisted amputee and mobility challenged participants.
