The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) submitted a statement to the Senate Finance Committee, which held a hearing June 25 on Recovery Audit Contractors and other Medicare contractors that conduct audits to identify improvements in how audits are conducted.
In the statement, AOPA addressed the effects that Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) audits have had on the O&P community, including cash flow disruptions to O&P practitioners.
“We are pleased to see the Senate Finance Committee looking into the RACs’ excessive auditing activities and into their commission structure, which we believe creates a perverse incentive for them to find mistakes when none have been made,” AOPA concluded in their statement. “We stand ready to assist the Committee in any way we can, and we hope that the Senate Finance Committee can assist small health care businesses that comprise the orthotics and prosthetics field.”
