Alan Oliveira set a new world record in the men’s T43 100 m sprint with a time of 10.77 seconds at the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix in Berlin on June 15, according to a news release.
Oliveira, a 20-year-old bilateral transtibial amputee sprinter from Brazil and T43/44 200 m gold medalist at the 2012 Paralympics in London, beat the previous world record, which was held jointly by South Africa’s Oscar Pistorius and USA’s Blake Leeper, by 0.14 seconds. Oliveira’s time is also 0.08 seconds faster than the T44 100 m record, which is held by Jonnie Peacock from Great Britain.
Oliveira will compete at the IPC World Championships in Lyon, France, held July 19-28.
