The American Board of Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, Inc. (ABC) announced the completion of the first comprehensive accreditation program exclusively for central fabrication facilities and is now accepting applications.
The program will ensure that the entire continuum of O&P care is represented by ABC accreditation programs. Consumers, referral sources, O&P practice owners and third party payers can also be assured that a stringent set of quality standards have been met. The new program will require an onsite survey and reaccreditation every 5 years.
Central fabrication facilities will be measured against 60 standards that directly correlate to best business practices and process improvement. The standards are grouped into eight categories, which include organization, business records, recordkeeping, human resources, warranty and recalls, safety and equipment, quality assurance and customer satisfaction.
“As new models of patient care are emerging, facilities are seeking central fabrication facilities who meet a certain set of standards, reflecting their commitment to the quality processes that directly impact the quality and outcome of patient care,” Mike Allen, CPO, FAAOP, ABC facility accreditation committee chair, stated in a press release.
