The U.S. Paralympics, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, announced that the Valor Games will be expanded to three additional regions of the country, according to a news release.

The Valor Games were established by World Sport Chicago, the U.S. Paralympics and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide introductory sports competitions for veterans and service members with physical disabilities and to promote sports at the community level. The first event, Valor Games Midwest, was held in Chicago in 2011.

Now in its third year, the Valor Games are expanding to include Valor Games Southeast in Durham, N.C., Valor Games Southwest in San Antonio and Valor Games Far West in Jan Jose, Calif. Funding for the four competitions will be provided by the VA.

“We’re proud to expand this great event for veterans that World Sport Chicago has made so popular,” Chris Nowak, director of the VA Office of National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events, stated in the release. “By offering the competition at targeted regions across the country, we’re not only making it easier for veterans to participate, but also more cost-effective.”
