LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — DaneLaFontsee, CPed, received the Seymour Lefton Award, which recognizes outstanding service to the pedorthic industry by an individual, at the Pedorthic Footcare Association Annual Symposium and Exhibition, here.
LaFontsee enjoyed a successful career as a professional ballet dancer and then artistic director for several ballet companies before pursuing a career as a certified pedorthist.
Currently, LaFontsee is the owner of Orthletek and provides pedorthic services to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Milwaukee Ballet, Milwaukee Wave and various athletic teams at Marquette University. He is also a clinical professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
LaFontsee will soon be retiring from the pedorthic profession to spend time with his wife and family and raise llamas on his ranch.
Joseph Zaffater, CPed, president of the PFA, presented LaFontsee with the award.
“In his endeavors to further the profession for all of us through education, he has gained widespread respect,” Zaffater said. “Although Dane will no longer be here physically at the symposiums after this year, he has left his mark on all of us and remains a great friend to those in need.”
LaFontsee was greeted with enthusiastic applause and a standing ovation.
“What an honor,” LaFontsee said. “I just want to say that after 28 years in the ballet world, I have stood in front of audiences, and they stood for me. But what you guys just did meant far more.”
