The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Inc. has developed the first comprehensive accreditation program exclusively for central fabrication facilities in the orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic profession, according to a press release.
Following the mandate of its other accreditation programs, the American Board for Certification’s (ABC) new program will ensure that the entire continuum of care is represented by ABC accreditation programs, offering O&P business owners the assurance that those central fabrication facilities they partner with are held to the same level of standards that they have already met. With an onsite survey and re-accreditation every 3 years, the new program will follow the same model as all of ABC’s current accreditation programs. Fabrication facilities will also be measured against 60 standards that directly correlate to best business practices and process improvement.
“As new models of patient care are emerging, facilities are seeking central fabrication facilities who meet a certain set of standards, reflecting their commitment to the quality processes that directly impact the quality and outcome of patient care,” Mike Allen, CPO, FAAOP, Facility Accreditation Committee Chair, stated in the release.
The new central fabrication accreditation program will begin accepting applications January 1, 2013.
