Hector Picard became the first double arm amputee to complete the Ironman U.S. Championship in New York City Saturday, Aug. 11.
Picard, who ran the race on behalf of the I Will Foundation, raced through a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run with a time of 16 hours and 42 minutes, ranking 262 in his division and 2,011 overall.
“Other than the swim, the bike and run courses were the hardest that I’ve competed on,” Picard posted on his Facebook page. “Many times during this race the little voice in my head kept saying “let’s quit and go get a beer” so I punched it in the mouth and finished this race.”
