Oscar Pistorius and his South African teammates are moving to the 1,600 meter relay final at the Olympics after a collision in the opening round on Thursday made them miss their chance, according to the Associated Press.
A Kenyan runner collided with South Africa’s Ofentse Mogawane during his leg of the 1,600 meter relay heat, knocking him to the ground and making him drop the baton. Although Pistorius and teammates thought they were done in London, the referee disqualified Kenya from the competition, ruling that the runner cut across the track too soon, causing Mogawane to fall. According to the IAAF, the jury met and “agreed to advance the South African team, even though they did not finish the race, considering that they had been severely damaged in the incident with Kenya,” according to the report.
