The Board of Certification/Accreditation, International, introduced “Emeritus status” to recognize practitioners who are no longer practicing, but still retain certification title. The designation honors years of experience, expertise and quality patient care in the orthotics and prosthetics industry, according to a press release.
Practitioners must have 15 or more years of continuous Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC) certification to be eligible for self-nomination or nomination by another BOC-certified practitioner. The certificant will be able to place “Emeritus” after their former credential after their qualifications are verified by the BOC.
“For some time now, we’ve been thinking through ways to acknowledge the service and hard work of those certificants who are no longer practicing but have served in the industry for many years,” John Kenney, MURP, BOCO, chairman of BOC’s Board of Directors, said in a press release. “With the introduction of Emeritus status, we believe we have found a way to thank certificants for their commitment to the profession and to BOC.”
