The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics participated in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) annual meeting, April 29 to 30 in San Diego, Calif.
ABC’s association with CAAHEP is a result of its sponsorship of the mission and activities of the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE). ABC’s sponsorship further demonstrates its support of the accreditation system and the education standards for the O&P profession.
CAAHEP is the largest programmatic postsecondary accrediting agency in the health sciences field and as such reviews and accredits more than 2,100 entry-level educational programs in 23 health science professions.
“ABC has always felt that its sponsorship of NCOPE’s activities with CAAHEP is essential in ensuring that O&P students are receiving the appropriate formal education necessary to prepare them for the profession,” Catherine Carter, ABC’s executive director, stated in a press release. “This year’s annual meeting was a great opportunity to hear firsthand about CAAHEP’s continued commitment to setting standards that improve the educational process.”
“ABC and NCOPE have enjoyed a long standing relationship — often certification boards and accreditation agencies relationships are referred to as a marriage. Both need and rely upon the other to appropriately prepare the future professionals that will be providing O&P patient care services. We are grateful for the continued support of both ABC and the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists,” according to Robin Seabrook, NCOPE executive director.
