Loretta Muilenburg, co-founder of Muilenburg Prosthetics Inc., Houston, was honored at a celebration of her 90th birthday April 19, at the company’s office. The event, hosted by son Ted Muilenburg, CP, was attended by colleagues, patients and friends.
The late Al Muilenburg, CPO, and Loretta, an occupational therapist, began the company in 1948. Former residents of Minnesota, Al Muilenburg worked for Minneapolis Artificial Limb Co. before striking out on his own. The first facility was in the couple’s home; fabrication took place in the garage and sockets were dried in the kitchen oven.
Muilenburg Prosthetics has been at its current 10,000-square-foot location since 1950. Loretta is still active in the company, and reports to her office several times a week.
