Oscar Pistorius, elite athlete and member of Team Össur, was named as one of TIME Magazine’s ‘100 most influential people in the world’ for 2012.
“He is the definition of global inspiration,” Sean Gregory, TIME’s sports columnist wrote.
The world-famous listing from TIME magazine invites readers to meet the most influential people in the world. This year’s list incorporates a fascinating range of pioneers, breakout figures, icons and leaders, whose ideas spark dialogue and dissent and sometimes even revolution. Pistorius shares this honor with figures as diverse as President Obama, Adele, Lionel Messi and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Oscar Pistorius, the only South African honoree, has shown that anything is possible in athletics. With the help of his carbon fiber running blades, the double-amputee sprinter has earned the right to compete against the world’s best athletes.
The TIME 100 list is about the infinite possibilities of influence and the power of influence to change the world,” Hans Rosling, statistician who was also featured in the 2012 top 100, said.
