ATLANTA — Terry J. Supan, CPO, FAAOP, FISPO, president of Supan Prosthetic Orthotic Consultation, received the Titus-Ferguson Lifetime Award at the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium for his accomplishments and contributions that have made a significant impact on the O&P profession. The Titus-Ferguson Award is the highest level of recognition for an Academy member.
“I want to take the time to thank the Air Force sergeants and civilians that took a farm boy and introduced him to the strange world of orthotics and prosthetics,” Supan said, here. “I would also like to thank my wife, Marcia Supan. Without her support none of this would be possible.”
Donald E. Katz, LO, CO, FAAOP, administrative staff of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, was presented with the Distinguished Practitioner Award for his personal dedication to the advancement of the O&P profession.
“Don Katz is the definition of distinguished practitioner,” Bruce “Mac” McClellan, CPO, LPO, FISPO, president of Prosthetic-Orthotic Associates said. “He has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the science and art of orthotic care.”
Katz’s work as a researcher, educator and leader strengthened the O&P profession at every level, McClellan said. He is considered one of the profession’s experts in idiopathic scoliosis and was the first orthotist asked to join the Scoliosis Research Society.
“When I got the call about this award, I was astonished,” Katz said. “But when I learned that Terry would be winning the Titus-Ferguson Award, it put me at ease knowing I am a part of such a wonderful group.”
