The Catholic Medical Mission Board awarded Hanger Orthopedic Group, Ivan R. Sabel and the Hanger Ivan R. Sabel Foundation with its inaugural Global Health Care Leadership Award in honor of Hanger’s 150th anniversary and its humanitarian efforts in Haiti. The award was presented to Thomas F. Kirk, Hanger’s chief executive officer, and Ivan R. Sabel, the chairman of the Ivan R. Sabel Foundation, at a gala on Feb 3.
Hanger and CMMB have worked together as members of the Haitian Amputee Coalition, which was established by Hanger in the wake of the Haiti earthquake in 2010. The Coalition created Klinik Hanger, a long-term prosthetic and rehabilitation center on-site at the Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Deschapelles, Haiti, which continues to provide prosthetic and psychological care, as well as transportation and physical therapy.
“We are honored to receive this award from such a well-respected, far-reaching charitable organization like CMMB,” Sabel stated in a press release. “An invaluable partner within the Haitian Amputee Coalition, CMMB has been instrumental to the success of the Klinik Hanger in Deschapelles. We look forward to continuing our joint efforts to meet the prosthetic needs of those in Haiti.”
