Gulbrandson Orthotics & Prosthetics hosted a First Dance Clinic Feb. 12 at the Holiday Inn Crystal Lake, Chrystal Lake, Ill., in association with the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation.
First Dance provides a chance for people with physical disabilities to enjoy the social aspect of partner dancing. More than 50 people, including participants, family and friends, attended the event. Cinnamon Trammell and the staff from the Center for Ballroom and Dance in Deer Park, Ill. instructed participants in a number of dances, including the fox trot, waltz, merengue and line dancing. Volunteers from a local high school served as dance partners.
“The instructors were very sensitive to the pace of this group,” event host Gilbert Gulbrandson, CO, LO, CPed, stated in a press release.
“Although some of our attendees might not enjoy tennis or scuba or horses, almost everyone remembers social dance events from their youth, and First Dance offers that chance to dust off your dancing shoes and have a bit of fun,” Robin Burton, OPAF executive director, said in the release.
