The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid announced that the Prior Authorization of Power Mobility Devices Demonstration and the Recovery Audit Prepayment Review Demonstration are expected to move forward around June 1.
These demonstrations were originally scheduled to take effect on January 1. However, CMS postponed the start dates after it received a significant number of comments and suggestions regarding the Power Mobility Device demonstration. This demonstration has since been revised.
The demonstrations were announced on November 15, 2011 as a three-part project aiming to strengthen Medicare by eliminating fraud, waste and abuse. The first demonstration, the Part A to Part B Rebilling Demonstration, began on January 1.
